HISTORY
Chelsea was founded in the year 1820, and the railroad built a station here in 1850. Life here is an interesting mixture of modern amenities and yesteryear's charm. The old clocktower has been the quintessential Chelsea landmark for 101 years. It currently houses the Chelsea Chamber of Commerce and other offices, and is adjacent to a complex that offers restaurants and shops as well as a courtyard.

A DELIGHTFUL DOWNTOWN
The local retailers have formed a group called the Retail Advisory Council. They work together to promote events that draw people to the downtown area during the different seasons of the year. A THRIVING LOCAL THEATER
The Purple Rose Theatre was founded in 1991 by notable actor Jeff Daniels who is a native of Chelsea. It features original plays in a setting from the past, when the stage was the focal point of entertainment. The theater was originally a bus garage, but was refurbished over the years. The Purple Rose offers reasonably priced tickets to original plays year 'round, as well as classes and apprenticeship programs. It is a rose in Chelsea's bouquet of entertainment!

You can also get in touch with the great outdoors in Chelsea. Minutes from Downtown Chelsea you will find numerous inland lakes offering several water sports or you can enjoy the deluxe nature package at the Waterloo Recreation Area, which is the largest State of Michigan park in the Lower Peninsula. Spanning more than 20,000 acres, the park boasts 11 lakes, 47 miles of hiking trails, 3 rustic cabins, a riding stable and numerous equestrian trails.

Financing Your Home >Convertible ARMs
Many lenders are offering a type of Adjustable Rate Mortgage which will allow the buyers to convert their ARM to a fixed-rate mortgage without the expense of refinancing. There are several variations of this type of loan, so you should be informed about the various options before you decide on a loan.
Each lender places restrictions on when the ARM can be converted to a fixed-rate loan. Some allow a conversion after the first year of the mortgage, while others allow a change only on the rate adjustment dates. There is usually a fee for converting the mortgage, but it is much less than the cost of refinancing. The rate that you will pay after the conversion may be slightly higher than the going rate for fixed-rate mortgages. A real estate agent can provide you with a list of lenders who offer convertible ARMs, so that you can shop for the one that is best for you.
